Officer
Down Self-aid, Buddy
aid
All too often, EMS and Fire/Rescue
may not be able to reach and render lifesaving care to a wounded Law
Enforcement Officer in a timely manner. This Self Aid/Buddy Aid
(SABA) course is designed to provide training in critical first aid
procedures for the non-medical trained Law Enforcement Officer. This
instruction goes beyond the traditional medical training provided at
the academy. This course is not intended to take the place of
Emergency Medical Services, but until the scene is rendered safe,
this training will allow you to stop or slow the deterioration of a
wound to yourself, your partner or an innocent bystander.
“S.A.B.A” will
allow the Law Enforcement Professional like you learn and
demonstrate:
1. A Basic and Rapid Assessment to
address “Life Threatening” Injuries on yourself and others.
2. A concise and
effective way to assess the Airway, Breathing and Circulation.
3. Hemorrhage
Control Techniques and Equipment Options.
4. Issues with
CPR, Spinal Immobilization in the Austere Environment.
5. Hands free
Rapid Emergency Extraction.
6. Intense
“Hands On” skills development and Realistic Scenarios that encompass
all of the skills learned.
S.A.B.A is
an applicable course for the Law Enforcement Officer on the street.
Successful training should prepare the student when confronted with
an actual medical emergency with a sense of confidence and a feeling
of having “been here before.”
TTC provides a full day of training
for patrol officers or SWAT operators. This full day of training
allows TTC to increase the “Hands on” skill stations. This results
in a better understanding of the course materials and develops
confidence in skill performance.
The Course content includes:
Background of how officers die in combat, care under fire
(assessments, tourniquets, direct pressure, hemostatic dressings,
casualty carries), Tactical field care, management of penetrating
eye trauma, tactical field care (airway, sucking chest wounds,
shock, splinting & bandaging), casualty and remote assessments.
The course consists of lectures,
tactical scenarios, practical exercises, and written examination.
TTC will schedule the training at your facility or at a TDY location
of your choosing. We are also able to act quickly to training
request and we can provide training based on the requesting units
schedule.
